Ordinary Citizens, Extraordinary Change: How Citizens Unite to Improve their Communities: A Talk with Dr. Rachael V. Cobb

York Public Library is pleased to present our fourth annual Bancroft Lecture Series event, "Ordinary Citizens, Extraordinary Change: How Citizens Unite to Improve their Communities' with Dr. Rachael V. Cobb. Dr. Rachael V. Cobb, an Associate Professor of Political Science at Suffolk University, specializes in American politics, particularly voting rights, election administration, and political participation. Dr. Cobb co-chairs the university-wide Suffolk Votes committee, which is dedicated to non-partisan voter mobilization and education. Additionally, she serves on the city of Boston’s Mayor’s Election Advisory Committee and the board of the nonpartisan nonprofit MassVOTE. Since 2006, she has collaborated with the City of Boston to recruit students as poll workers. Dr. Cobb has also worked with the United States Election Assistance Commission to update their college poll worker guidance. Dr. Cobb received her Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her A.B. from Bryn Mawr College. Seating is limited, registration is required. Registration for this event opens September 10th at 9AM. This talk will be held in the Library's Upper Level and a reception will follow. The event is free and open to the public. The endowment was established in memory of Dan Bancroft, who served as president of the YPLA Board of Trustees from 2021 to 2023. Through his engagement in the York community as a dedicated volunteer and outstanding leader, as well as his gift for connecting with people, Dan left an enduring impact on our town.
